Charcoal Portrait

This is my first attempt at a portrait, using charcoal on paper.
Charcoal is a very forgiving medium. It can be pushed and pulled which is very useful when crafting a face, particularly when searching for a likeness. I was amazed at how the face developed from a basic structure or map of features to something like the subject.
That said, portraiture is very precise. Small changes make a big difference to the overall likeness. One minute a it looks like the person and the next it is gone, seemingly with only the tap of a willow stick or an eraser!
