Digital Sketch

A digital sketch in Art Set 4, working on the iPad with simulated oil brushes and paint. The scene is afternoon light on one of the poplar tree at the entrance to the Southwell Trail.
This was the first time I had used Art Set 4 and whilst most art apps follow similar principles, they all have their navigation quirks. It takes a bit of time to work through this with a lot of trial and error!
That said, once I got going I enjoyed the app and I liked some of the marks that I could make with the ‘big oil brush’, including using it as a stamp (stippling action) and also with a twisting motion which helped create a texture when painting the trees.
The whole scene was painted on one layer, using just the one brush in varying sizes. At the end, I applied a base surface texture from the Art Set selection using the multiple blend mode - it took ages to find the layer blend modes!
Update: I have since found an Art Set user guide. On the gallery page there is a question mark and this opens the guide.
