Holcombe Road in Acrylic Goauche

A sketchbook spread of Holcombe Road, completed with Holbein acrylic gouache. This is my first time using acrylic gouache instead of the traditional gum arabic bound version. The main difference lies in rewetting and reactivation. While normal gouache easily reactivates, acrylic gouache will not respond to rewetting. I also noticed a difference in paint texture; acrylic gouache flows out of the tube while normal gouache is stiffer and creamier. This affects brushstrokes, especially dry brushing and blending on the surface. Ultimately, I think I’ll use both for future paintings, the acrylic version being ideal for underpainting, especially when working light to dark.
