Ladybower Bell-Mouth

23rd February 2015
Having been beaten off the north end of Stanage Edge at the weekend by a squally snow shower I stopped at Ladybower Reservoir. I have an informal list of shots to take which includes the Ladybower bell-mouth or plughole.

This plughole is one of two on the reservoir and when the water cascades into the bell-mouth it makes for a good slow shutter composition. The issue when capturing the composition is getting an angle for the shot over the surrounding the wall. The solution is to straddle the tripod on top of the wall and use the live view for the composition. All exposures have to be set before hoisting the camera as the dials are too high to make any changes!

When taking the shots I wasn't necessarily thinking black and white but when I reviewed them in Lightroom I could see that the main subject would be enhanced by a strong contrasty mono treatment.
