Southwell Trail

I have tried to paint the Southwell Trail on a number of occasions over the summer but found it very difficult to distinguish the shapes. Mostly it is foliage and undergrowth with a path that is not always clearly defined. There are lots of soft edges and the compositions rely on the transitions from light to dark. This is an example completed in oils on a 12x10 canvas board. I am now waiting for it to dry to decide whether it is finished…
