River Teign

A second watercolour of the River Teign at Shaldon. I don’t think this one captures the spontaneity of my previous painting and I believe this is due to its composition. Too many similar horizontal lines makes it harder to travel through the painting. For instance altering the foreground line to create a diagonal improves the composition and arguably so does cropping from the bottom (these changes were made using photo software). Of course, such issues should be addressed before starting a painting and the solution is thumbnail sketches - a useful reminder!
