Nottingham Station - Urban Sketch

I really enjoy the freedom of sketching where wobbly lines, a bit of scribble, and a loose application of colour are all acceptable.

That said, I like to get the perspective, the proportions, and the scale of the big shapes broadly correct, leaving the detail to be implied by various marks.

Most of these sketches are completed in an old sketch book and generally they not for show. But, now I have started this blog, I will make an exception.

Of course, I can see many ways to refine this drawing, although there are no corrections when working directly with ink. In this respect, it is what it is, and for me, this is one of the most enjoyable aspects of this type of sketching. If I could erase and re-work the drawing it would lose its spontaneity and I would never be satisfied.

Going forward, however, I would make my life easier if I used materials that can cope better with the job. The paper in this sketchbook is very thin, the ink bleeds through, and it is not really suitable for wet media. May be act of blogging will prompt me to upgrade for the next sketch…
