Rock Cemetery
14th March 2015
In the last year or so I have become more interested in photographing aspects of Nottingham city centre and whilst it would be inappropriate to describe a cemetery as a hidden gem, Church or Rock cemetery is definitely worth a visit.
The cemetery dates from the mid 1800s and there are rows of quite closely set graves facing St. Andrews Church with some very fine figure sculptures and tombs.
I only had a brief hour to look around and capture one or two photographs. I would have left more time had I realised how interesting the cemetery is both from a historical and visual perspective. A revisit is definitely on the list.
The photos I did take on this visit have been processed to take account of the lighting conditions which were a little harsh. To balance the highlights and shadows I have used Adobe's merge to HDR on a single file. I deliberately chose one of the more surreal pre-sets which was then overlaid onto the original exposure to reduce halo effects. Often my view with HDR is not to hide the process but to use it as a creative tool and to give impact in the final image - hopefully this has been achieved.
