Still Life (2)

10th June 2026
My recent post inspired me to explore other still life paintings completed in the past year or so. Many were group-inspired and are mostly remembered for their challenges and imperfections. Reflecting on this now, I can appreciate these flaws as integral to the watercolour experience and the learning process.

For example, preserving the white paper was a challenge when painting the cut glass as its reflection for this still life. The other difficulty was the point of view and painting ellipses. Even if the ellispes were drawn correctly it is easy to lose that drawing in the painting process and just a small change throws the perspective.
